MARCUS NETTLES – HITTING-OUTFIELD INSTRUCTOR & HEAD BASE-RUNNING INSTRUCTOR/SOFTBALL INSRTUCTOR
Marcus has a wealth of experience that he shares with his students on proper base-running techniques. Over the last five (5) years, Marcus has conducted youth training camps during his off-season.
Marcus attended Whitney Young Magnet School, where he received All-State honors his senior year as well as being recognized as a top-50 senior by Baseball America. He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates the same year. He attended Miami (FL) and was a member of TWO CWS National Championship teams – at the end of his junior year, he was drafted by the San Diego Padres (11th Round). Marcus played four years in the Padres organization reaching Double-A before moving into independent ball. As a professional, he led his league in stolen bases four (4) times [Northwest League (2001), California League (2002), Can-Am League (2006) & Atlantic League (2007)]. He was named Independent League Player of the Year by the Chicago Pitch & Hit Club in 2006. Marcus emphasizes quickness and proper fundamentals in his teaching technique.
BRENT BOWERS - SENIOR HITTING & FIELDING/SOFTBALL INSTRUCTOR
Brent Bowers began his 14 year playing career in 1989, when he was drafted out of high school in the2nd round draft by the Toronto Blue Jays. He spent 7 seasons in the Toronto system. Brent went on to sign with the Baltimore Orioles as a free agent in 1996, where he batted .308 in 21 games, advancing to the American League Championship Series. Brent continued his minor league career with Philadelphia, the New York Mets, Chicago Cubs, and the Cincinnati systems. He went on to play Korea, Venezuela, Dominican Republic and 7 Independent teams including the Albany Diamond Dogs in 2000, the New Jersey Jackal and the Northern League Eastern Conference and all of 2001 with Sioux City, Fargo-Moorhead, and the Duluth Superior Central Conference, before he concluded his playing career in 2002 with Solano Steelhead of the Western League (currently Golden League).
During the past 5 years, in the off season, Brent has been traveling to South America where he has been managing in the Colombian League. In his first 2 years he managed the Barranquilla Toros, then moved on to Sincelejo, earning 2007 Manager of the Year Honors. This season he will be Manager of the Monteria Cardinales.
BILL TUCKER – SENIOR PITCHING INSTRUCTOR
Coach Tucker has over 25 years of coaching experience as a head coach, assistant coach, and pitching instructor. Bill garnered All-State honors while attending Bloom HS graduating in 1973. He went on to have a distinguished career at Eastern Illinois University. Bill was drafted twice -- by the White Sox (17th Round 1973) and Atlanta Braves (16th Round 1976). Bill has five years of pro experience and had a rapid rise through the Atlanta Braves system reaching the AAA level – Bill still plays today on the Men’s Senior Baseball circuit.
After his playing career, Bill has instructed hundreds of collegiate and amateur players with a heavy emphasis on pitching fundamentals and proper pitching mechanics.
JOE HERNANDEZ - SENIOR HITTING & CATCHING INSTRUCTOR
Joe Hernandez has worked as a professional baseball instructor in the Chicagoland area for the past 14 years. He has over 35 years of baseball experience as a player, scout, and instructor. Joe Hernandez was a former college scholarship catcher/3rd baseman from Northeastern Illinois University. He was invited to the Kansas City Royals spring training camp as a non-roster free agent. Joe went on to sign professional baseball contracts with various organizations including Montreal and Kansas City, however, his pro career was cut short due to injuries. He returned to pro baseball as one of the Midwestern regional scouts for the Montreal Expos. Joe remains active in the Minor League Baseball Players Alumni Association and member of the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association.
