Coach, Teacher, and Family Man - Normal West Coach Chris Hawkins jumped on to the baseball diamond in 1984 and hasn’t left since. His playing experience dates back to high school, where he played for Lexington for four years. After high school, Hawkins played at Lincoln Junior College for two years before finishing up his college career at Rockford College in 1991. Hawkins earned All NIIC Third Basemen honors in 1990 and 1991. Hawkins has coached at a handful of high schools since graduation. He served as varsity assistant at Lincoln (1992), Olympia (1993-1995), Normal Community (1996-1997), and Normal West (1998-1999) before taking his current position as head coach. Since becoming the head coach at Normal West in 2000, Coach Hawkins has compiled a 155-65 record, one conference championship, three regional championships, and one sectional championship. In 2001, Hawkins was named Big 12 Coach of the Year, and, in 2005, he received the nod as head coach of the IHSBCA All-Star game. That’s quite a resume to be had in six short years.

Off the field, Chris Hawkins is a teacher at Parkside Junior High. Most importantly, however, Chris is a family man. He married his wife, Karrin, on December 28, 2001. They have two kids, TJ and Anna Claire.

Favorite Baseball Moment: “Making the State Tournament for the first time as a player or a coach with Parkside Junior High in 1999.”
