Monday, 02 April 2007 16:00

The Mather High School Rangers return this spring after finishing 16-18 overall last season and 7-5 in conference play. Head Coach James Duszak returns a young but talented squad that will gain experience as the season goes on. Watch for the Rangers to turn some heads late in the season as the young players gain their confidence.

Pitching:
The Rangers strength will be their pitching staff. Angel Carrasco (7 Wins), John Cantu (5 Wins) and Anthony English (5 Wins) are returning starters leading the talented pitching staff. Watch for sophomore starter Griffin Kell to contribute significant innings on the mound.

Hitting:
Angel Carrasco (.345 BA), Anthony English (.365 BA), Griffin Kell, and Martin Shasho provide plenty of power and make up the heart of the Ranger offense. John Cantu and newcomer Omar Caban will be on base a lot and provide many scoring opportunities. Also, watch for Tom Vargas and Toujay Yang to make significant offensive contributions this spring.

Defense:
The Rangers biggest question mark will be the defensive play. Angel Carrasco and John Cantu provide solid strength up the middle and will be the anchor of the defense.
