Hampshire headlines area scene

Hampshire, which advanced farther in the state playoffs than any other local team last year when it reached the Rockford Class 2A Super-Sectional. Seven starters and the three top pitchers return from that team, which finished 18-14 after enjoying a late-season surge.

All the signs point to another successful run for the Whip-Purs, but there's a catch. Hampshire moves up to Class 3A this season, where the competition is sure to be a bit tougher.
