By Andrew Drennen, ESPN RISE Baseball- The last time Westminster Christian (Palmetto Bay, Fla.) was back in 1998, but in 2009 they topped defending Class 2A champ Jacksonville Providence, 5-3.

''We have all sorts of plaques and pictures in our clubhouse of all those teams from the 1980s and '90s,'' Westminster Christian (27-6-1) coach Emil Castellanos told the Miami Herald after his team took home the state title last May. ``We're going to move them to make space for this team's picture.''

Freshman David Thompson had a tremendous year for the Warriors and played a role in Westminster winning its ninth title, tied for second with Tampa Catholic.  Key West leads the way with 11 state titles.

 
In the title game, Thompson came up huge and scoring a run and knocking a double late en route to the win.
 
Thompson was the only freshman on last year's championship team and recalled that he was not sure how much of an impact he would have.  "I wasn't even sure if I was going start.”
